On 9 June 2026, F&B Bio Recyclage Ltd was formally represented at a landmark ceremony at the Accra International Airport, where the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) received the Final Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Business Implementation Study Report. Produced by ICF under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) ACT-SAF Programme and funded by the UK Department for Transport, this study marks a defining moment in Ghana’s journey toward homegrown sustainable aviation fuel production.
Our Project Development Director, Mr. Frederick Opoku Agyekum, attended the ceremony alongside the Director-General of GCAA, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Senior GCAA directors, ICAO representatives, and key aviation and energy industry stakeholders.

Recognition That Reflects Our Development Credentials
F&B Bio Recyclage Ltd’s MSW-to-SAF project is listed in the ICAO ACT-SAF Ghana Business Implementation Study — a distinction that reflects the credibility, technical rigour, and national strategic alignment of our development programme. This is not an honorary mention. It is an institutional validation of our project’s role as a cornerstone of Ghana’s aviation decarbonisation agenda.
Our project — Ghana’s first large-scale Municipal Solid Waste-to-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (MSW-to-SAF) facility — is being developed at the Tema Industrial Area using proven Gasification and Fischer-Tropsch (G+FT) technology, with a total project CAPEX of approximately USD 1.263 billion.
| “Ghana has the waste, the land, the policy framework, and now the institutional backing. What this study confirms is what we have always known — the only missing piece was the conviction to build. F&B Bio Recyclage Ltd provides exactly that. We are building Ghana’s first MSW-to-SAF facility, and we will not stop until that fuel is in the tank of an aircraft departing Kotoka.” — Frederick Opoku Agyekum, Project Development Director, F&B Bio Recyclage Ltd |
What the Study Confirms
The Ghana SAF Business Implementation Study, the most comprehensive assessment of Ghana’s SAF potential to date, identifies several key findings that directly validate our development strategy:
- Ghana possesses considerable natural, industrial, and logistical potential to develop a viable domestic SAF industry that serves both aviation decarbonisation and national economic development goals.
- The Tema corridor is identified as a key industrial hub for SAF production in Ghana — a finding that directly validates our facility’s location strategy and infrastructure thesis.
- Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is recognised as one of the most viable and impactful SAF feedstocks available in Ghana, given the scale of the country’s urban waste generation challenge.
- Ghana’s inclusion in the ICAO ACT-SAF Programme signals strong multilateral commitment to enabling the country’s SAF transition, with institutional, regulatory, and financing support aligned accordingly.
Our Project: Technical Overview
F&B Bio Recyclage Ltd is developing the first commercial-scale MSW-to-SAF facility in Ghana, designed around a fully integrated Gasification and Fischer-Tropsch conversion pathway — a proven technology for converting heterogeneous solid waste streams into high-quality, CORSIA-eligible Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
| Key Project Parameters MSW Feedstock Throughput: 2,000 tonnes per day (660,000 tonnes per year) SAF Output: 80,000 – 90,000 tonnes per year Technology Pathway: Gasification + Fischer-Tropsch (G+FT) synthesis Annual GHG Abatement: 550,000 – 700,000 tCO₂e across three abatement streams Development Site: 74 Acres, Tema Industrial Area, Greater Accra Total Project CAPEX: Approximately USD 1.263 Billion Development Status: FEL-1 Complete | Pre-FEED Advancing | Project Financing Being Structured |
GHG Abatement: Three Streams of Impact
Our project’s estimated annual GHG abatement of 550,000 – 700,000 tCO₂e is derived from three independently quantifiable streams, each aligned with IPCC and CORSIA methodology:
- Stream 1 — SAF Carbon Displacement: Displacement of fossil jet fuel lifecycle emissions through the delivery of CORSIA-eligible SAF with approximately 70–85% lower lifecycle carbon intensity than conventional jet fuel.
- Stream 2 — Avoided Landfill Methane: Diversion of 730,000 tonnes of MSW per year from landfill sites, eliminating significant methane generation and leachate impacts associated with unmanaged organic waste decomposition.
- Stream 3 — Avoided Open Burning: Prevention of open burning and open dumping of municipal waste, which currently contributes substantial CO₂, CH₄, and black carbon emissions in Ghana’s urban waste management baseline.
Advancing Ghana’s National Aviation Decarbonisation Agenda
F&B Bio Recyclage Ltd has been an active participant in Ghana’s SAF policy ecosystem since the project’s inception. Our project is listed on the ICAO Finvest Hub, and our engagement with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) reflects a sustained commitment to aligning our development with national regulatory and policy frameworks.
The completion and formal handover of the SAF Business Implementation Study to the GCAA represents the establishment of a clear national roadmap. As the only large-scale MSW-to-SAF project under active development in Ghana, F&B Bio Recyclage Ltd is positioned to be the anchor investment that transforms that roadmap into operational reality.
Our Appreciation
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ICF, and the UK Department for Transport for their sustained vision, investment, and commitment to making Sustainable Aviation Fuel a reality in Ghana. The institutional framework you have built is the foundation upon which this project stands.
